Atelier Sashiko Shirt

The Atelier Sashiko Shirt starts with a relaxed 100% organic cotton shirt, garment dyed to give the fabric depth of colour and the slightly lived-in character we wanted from the outset.

Each shirt is then individually hand-finished in Edinburgh in partnership with Remode, a local social enterprise specialising in textile reuse and repair.

Original vintage military camouflage is carefully selected from surplus garments, cut into individual panels and applied by hand before being finished with tonal sashiko-inspired repair stitching. Because we're working with reclaimed military clothing rather than newly produced fabric, the camouflage pattern, colour and wear will differ from one shirt to the next. No two pieces are exactly the same.

The underlying shirt is deliberately simple and relaxed, with an open point collar, forwarded shoulder seams and a reinforced back yoke. That gives the handwork room to be the focus without turning the garment into a costume piece.

For us, that's what earns its place in Atelier: a good organic cotton shirt made individual through reclaimed materials, handwork and the people involved in making it.
